Imagine a small narrow road filled with flowers and beautiful smells – every Sunday you can find this oasis of foliage and flowers at Columbia Road and its weekly flower market.
Go early at 8am for the widest variety, or around 2-3pm if you are looking for a bargain. Meet some of the pitch owners here.
Apart from flower shopping or gazing, just remember that Columbia Road is one of the few streets that is still filled with independent shops (more than 60 of them). “Small art galleries sit next to cup cake shops, vintage clothes stores, English and Italian delis, garden and antique shops. There is also a wealth of great pubs, cafes and restaurants. The shops have a common thread, a love of the flower market and its history, and a refusal to be dictated to by a retail world where the sense of fun has all but gone.”
Our workspace, THECUBE London, is filled with plants and flowers, with most of them coming from the Columbia Road Flower Market. It is open every Sunday of the year – even easter and christmas. Those are some pretty hard working neighbours we have here in East London.
