Framing research for the future

25th July 2018 (6.30pm)

Guest speaker Gonçalo Lopes is a software engineer turned neuroscientist, fascinated by the behaviour of intelligent systems. Gonçalo will respond to the invitation laid down in our first workshop. How can the triangulation of seeing, feeling, and doing, frame a call to fresh research and action?

In recent years, Gonçalo has been trying to bring together insights from neuroscience, robotics, and biology into a renewed research frame of reference. For the first time, Gonçalo will explore and explain his ideas about how cortex might have departed from rationality into fiction and storytelling, and how this exodus has played a unique role in shaping the human mind. Participants of the workshop will be invited to join us in recording the assumptions underlying this framework, and how they can guide future research. Together we will contemplate and critically evaluate the implications of this framing for understanding our past, present, and future research.

THECUBE is looking forward to hosting this workshop together with the ‘Beyond the brain’ collective from Central Saint Martins MA Art&Science degree. If you are interested in attending, please sign up here. As always, this event is free of charge.
