The core of “cognitive science” is based around understanding the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding, through thought, experience, and the senses. This field brings together linguists, programmers, psychologists, neuroscientists, philosophers, among others with the shared goal of developing models of how we acquire, perceive, and use information as well as how to replicate or improve these process.

Historically, people who pursued cognitive neuroscience tended to follow more technical or research focused paths. Yet the field of applied cognition aims to translate scientific findings and models into actionable applications. The term “cognitive” is being increasingly used in applications such as sports performance analysis, various forms of therapy, group dynamics optimisation, decision-making, and educational material.

Together with our panel, we will discuss how researchers translate cognition based lab research to a variety of real world applications, and explore the similarities and differences in the goal of cognitive tools and models in academia and industry.

THECUBE London is excited to be hosting this Neuroscience London MeetUp examining applied cognition. Having a couple of neuroscientists as members, which are working towards real life applications of findings found in laboratories, this event is the perfect fit. Open and free to all, members of the coworking space as well as and non-members, this event is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the human brain in plain English, in the heart of Shoreditch London.
